Economic Development District
As a designated Economic Development District of the U.S. Department of
Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA), KIRPC receives
annual funding to develop and implement the Comprehensive Economic
Development Strategy (CEDS) for the region. The CEDS analyzes the
local economy, identifies challenges and opportunities, defines the
goals of the region, and designs strategies to accomplish these goals.
Participation in the CEDS process is required for communities to
receive project funding from the Economic Development Administration.
Rural Transportation Planning
KIRPC receives annual funding from the Indiana Department of
Transportation's Small Urban and Rural Transportation Planning Program.
The goal of the program is to enhance transportation planning in small
urban and rural areas. Activities included in this program is to
enhance transportation planning in small urban and rural areas.
Activities included in this program include traffic counting, data
collection, coordination with INDOT and local officials, traffic
studies, safety studies, and other transportation related projects.
Arrowhead County Public Transit System
Since 1986, a competitive grant awarded annually through the Federal
Transit Administration (FTA) and the Indiana Department of
Transportation (INDOT), has provided KIRPC the opportunity to work with
several local Community Service Agencies to provide demand-responsive
public transit service. This service is available to residents for a
nominal cost and provides options for seniors, children, disabled
persons, and others who might be in need of transportation alternatives. Read more about the Arrowhead County Public Transit System.
Hazard Mitigation Planning
Through funding from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, KIRPC will be preparing Hazard Mitigation Plans for the region. The primary purpose of the plans is to identify community policies, actions, and tools for implementation over the long term that will result in a reduction in risk and potential for future losses community wide from potential hazards.
State Data Center Affiliate
KIRPC is an affiliate of the Indiana State Data Center. As an affiliate KIRPC maintains a publicly accessible collection of reference and statistical publications and provides assistance to data users in locating and using Census Bureau data.
Grant Writing and Administration
KIRPC writes and administers a variety of grant types to help community
and economic development projects. Below is a list of some of the
